Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day in the United States is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. It celebrates motherhood and is a day to value mothers and motherly figures. On this day, gifts, cards, flowers or a meal in a restaurant are given to all the maternal  figures, including grandmothers, great-grandmothers, stepmothers and adoptive mothers.

The Mother’s Day celebration in the United States was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official holiday in the United States in 1914. Jarvis would later disagree with the holiday marketing and spend the last part of his life trying to take it off the calendar.
